April 7, 2020

Today, Governor Inslee and the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction announced they were closing all public and private schools across the state through June 19. Schools won’t be open for traditional, in-person instruction for the remainder of the school year, the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction says learning will continue online & virtually. The governor says that if a senior is in good standing, the expectation is they will get a diploma this year. Students with disabilities and English language learners for whom distance learning would present challenges may be allowed to attend some classes IN school classrooms as long as social distancing is maintained. The state will be working with Internet and private sector partners to continue to connect educators and students. State Superintendent Chris Reykdal says access to the internet is as much of a right as access to clean water.
