Ladybug Room Teacher
Hi, my name is Lynn Shades,
I hold an AMI (Association Montessori International) diploma for ages 2.5 – 6+ that I received in 1995. I have over 25 years of experience in the teaching profession. Much of my focus has been on guiding children, coaching families and mentoring colleagues. I have also been a key contributor in building new successful programs. My drive to learn and to grow in greater support of children, as well as families and teachers in my community is at the heart of my work.
There is no question that Peace Education is a foundational part of everything I do. My first experience with Montessori was when I was 19 years old. I became an assistant in a Montessori school and instantly fell in love with the philosophy. I loved the way that the children were treated with such kindness (through grace and courtesy), and the respect that was shown to them really made an impression on me. To me, this approach was a reflection of both my mother’s spirit and my father’s kindness. I was so taken in by the living and thriving micro community in each classroom. I also deeply appreciated the beautifully created interactive material. These materials provided the children with the freedom to follow their hearts, and allowed them to soar in their social, emotional and academic learning. I knew had to take the training!
Over the years, I have expanded my experience with Peace Education by participation in nonviolent communication training, and other peace communication programs, whenever I can find them. I continue to learn and follow my passion to bring Peace Education to the world in any way that I can.
Among the many activities that I enjoy, hiking with my family and visiting local gardens, are some of my favorites. My hobbies include photography, reading poetry, collecting rocks, adoring trees, and learning all forms of healing. I am so delighted to be part of the Camas Montessori School Community.
