Child Abuse Reporting All employees are mandatory reporters of suspected child abuse and neglect. It is a state policy that all suspicions must first be reported to the administrator and then the local child care agency before parents are notified. Discipline The school's policy on discipline is that corporal punishment is NOT allowed. If a child is bothering another he/she will be redirected to another activity. If it continues, he/she will become "the teacher's best friend" by holding onto the teacher's hand until an appropriate choice can be made and the disruptive behavior stops. If this does not work or if a child is threatening the safety of another, the child will be asked to sit in a chair away from the others but in full view of the teacher. If this does not stop the behavior, the child may be asked to sit similarly, in another classroom in full view of that teacher. If a child shows signs of bullying or threatening, or is constantly distracted and the behavior is not controlled by the teacher, a conference will be arranged between parent and teacher first, then parent, teacher and administrator. If, after many attempts to ensure the safety of the children and/or staff is thwarted, and it is determined by an outside authority that the child is not able to control his/her actions, dismissal may be required. Behavior Management Our discipline policy is already listed in this handbook (above). For further practices that the school must follow, the WAS 388-295-2040 is available for viewing and is kept in our Policy and Procedure Manual in the school office. WAC Policies The school provides a Pesticide Policy (WAC 51-60), a Behavior Management Plan (WAC 20-40), Child abuse reporting requirements, and the Disaster Plan (WAC 50-30) to be reviewed upon request by any parent. They are kept in the school office. |
