Communicable Diseases
If a child has been exposed to or absent because of a communicable disease (e.g. measles, mumps, chicken pox,
strep throat, etc.) you are required to notify the school.  Health regulations for control of communicable diseases
govern the child's return to school.  All children coming to school MUST go out for recess.  If your child is too sick
to participate in recess, he/she is also too sick to be in school.

Dispensing Medications
The school does not wish to dispense medication of any kind.  If absolutely necessary, the school will
dispense medications that are accompanied by a note signed by the parent stating when and
how much of the medicine is to be given and with the physician's name on it
.  It must be in the
original container with the child's name on it.  The medicine will be administered by an approved staff member.
Cough or cold medicines must be given BEFORE the child comes to school.
Please do not send medicine in
your child's lunch!

Medication for Children w/Disabilities
If a child has a condition where the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) would apply, we will make reasonable
accommodations to give medication.

Health Emergencies
If your child becomes sick during the day, you will be notified so that he/she may be taken home as soon as
possible or arrangements made to have this done.  He/she will be provided a mat to lay down on or a chair to sit
in that is away from the other children but still in view of the teacher.  The school is required by the State Health
Department to refuse admittance to any child showing signs of ill health.  If changes are made in your
employment and/or the people listed on the emergency slip as alternative persons that may be called, please let
the office know so that your child's record is kept current.  In case of an accident, every attempt will be made to
contact you and your family physician.  However, the school's physician will be contacted when the physician
designated by you is not available.]

Re-admission policy
The school and health regulations require that children who have been diagnosed with any communicable
disease or symptoms including but not limited to, a high fever, heavy diarrhea, pink eye, lice, scabies, influenza,
etc. will require a WRITTEN note from the child's doctor or attending physician explaining:
~if the child has been on medication long enough to be able to return to school without being contagious
~if the child has been treated and is no longer sick

Pick Up Authorization
The people you would like to have pick up your child must be listed on the authorization section of your child's
application form.  The list can be added to or subtracted from at any time.
Only those people listed will be
allowed to take your child off the school grounds unless a note is received, signed and dated by you, stating
otherwise
.  Also, if you want your child to walk home or leave the school grounds in any way by him/herself,
please notify the director prior to the date.
1.  If an authorized person who does not come regularly picks up your child, the school must first be notified by
a written note or by phone.
2.  The adult then checks in with the child's teacher by knocking on the classroom door or by standing at the
gate if your child is at recess.  If the children are in the Daycare room then please step quietly inside until the adult
in charge approaches and approves you via checking for I.D. if necessary.
3.  In order to lessen any disruption of a classroom, the adult is asked to remain outside the door briefly while the
teacher prepares your child for leaving.  This preparation may involve his packing away any material he had out,
cleaning up after lunch, or shaking hands with the teacher so that he/she may acknowledge him.
4.  Any time that your child needs to stay beyond his/her scheduled time, a previous notification is required.
Otherwise, a charge per every five minutes is accrued until the child is picked up.  With notification, only the
occasional care charge per hour is accrued.
Children are very cognizant of the time they leave every day and may become worried if they are "left behind".
We hope to alleviate these concerns by preparing the child ahead of time to let them know that someone in
particular is picking them up and when to expect them.

Disaster Plans
The school follows the disaster plan set up according to the WAC50-30.  This includes but is not limited to:
kidnapping, child endangerment, lockdown, earthquakes, fire drills, terrorist threats, etc.  Each family is asked to
provide a gallon size ZIPLOC bag in which to put items for the child to eat, drink, and be comforted by (a note
from home or family picture) if a disaster occurs and the child must stay in the building for an extended time.
These plans are available for review via request.
