Eligibility
No Child will be refused admission because of race, religion, creed or color.  We Consider a racial and ethnic
mixture advantageous and enriching to the full development of the child.  Parents are encouraged to commit
through Kindergarten.  Observations must be scheduled for placement on the waiting list

Calendar
Holidays, vacations, and snow days will correspond to the Camas School Calendar and our own calendar.

Kindergarten Policy
All children are considered Kindergarten age if they turn 5 before August 31.  No children will be encouraged to
'skip' their Kindergarten year.  All Kindergarten children are required to attend from 8:30 - 3:00 (full day).

The Primary Curriculum
The curriculum includes instruction and exercises in practical life, sensorial education, mathematics, language
arts, geography, nature and botany, handiwork, art, religion and music.  These subjects are taught using
Montessori equipment designed to stimulate self-teaching.  The environment is one in which the basic virtues
are consciously fostered.  An integral part of the Montessori process includes work activities which are chosen by
the children themselves.  Work materials have a fixed place in the classroom and are returned after use,
emphasizing that job completion and sharing with others are key life skills.  Classes begin at 8:30am and end at
3:00pm.  Supervised naptime is provided for children younger than five.
Reading:  Reading is taught by letter sounds and using the lower case alphabet.  When a child recognizes 12
letters or more, he may begin reading exercises and, at the teacher's discretion, be introduced to reading books
corresponding to his/her reading level.
Writing:  Cursive writing is taught to children at an appropriate age.  This is most accommodating to the young
child's natural hand movements.  Later the child will be introduced to italic/print writing
and eventually, writing
sentences, phrases and stories.
